Q: What is Spam and where does it come from?
A: Spam is any message or posting, regardless of it's content, that is sent to multiple recipients who have not specifically requested the mail. Other common terms for Spam are UCE (Unsolicited Commercial E-mail) and UBE (Unsolicited Bulk E-mail).
Q: What are W3i's policies against Spam?
A: We at W3i do not endorse or allow spam through our site. We will make every effort to eliminate spam and accounts being used for spam.
The spam reports that W3i receives are (the majority of time) from these two non W3i related types of mailings:
- The spammer has set up an account at our site either as a 'remove me account' or where they actually want you to send information to. We recommend that you do not reply to spam or ask to be removed from mailing lists. Many times, the spammers will just use your reply as a way of validating your account.
- The spammer falsifying a random email address (which happens to contain the Freeze domain name) by using an open relay somewhere and is forging headers that point to an account at our site. About 90% of the time, these accounts do not even exist.
Our systems cannot be directly used for sending out spam. We do not allow email to be relayed through our system, and we limit the number of recipients that can receive email from a user.
If you happen to receive a spam mail containing any of the following Freeze.com addresses, please note that these accounts are not active accounts on our system. Most of these accounts never have been active as they were most likely random names and addresses generated by email (spam) hijackers. We are already working very hard to find the source of this spam and your additional complaint in these cases is not necessary:

Q: How can I protect myself from receiving Spam?
A: To reduce unsolicited e-mail, avoid the following practices:
- Posting to an on-line service or any Internet bulletin board.
- Posting in a usenet newsgroup or mailing list.
- Spending time in chat rooms or an on-line service that displays your address.
- Including yourself in an unprotected on-line service's member directory.
These things should help you further avoid Spam:
- Remove yourself from any unprotected member directory on which you may be published.
- Open a second e-mail account. Use this as an address for newsgroup and listserve publications or for posting on bulletin boards.
- Never reply to unsolicited e-mail with a "remove" request since this only validates to a spammer that your address is current.
